Solar panels
Against
reason, there are people in the world who think that solar
panels are only for hippies. Well, anyone who thinks such a thing
must also think that George W. Bush is a hippy. The White House installed
a solar
electric system back in 2002. But wait… what about Bush’s
failing energy policy and the American’s lag in the production
of solar panels? Is it really possible that it is the same Bush who
installs solar
panels at home while making it difficult for others to do the same?
George W. Bush is for Solar
Power?
The National Park Service (the administrator of the White House Complex)
along with a Boston-based solar installation firm installed the solar
power system in late 2002. Over 160
photovoltaic solar panels now grace the roof of the main maintenance
building. The power generated from these panels is used by the grounds’
distribution system.
Solar panels, aka solar collectors, are used to heat the pool and spa,
as well as heat domestic water.
Yes, it is likely the National Park Service who pushed to install renewable
energy resources in the most famous home in the United States, but George
W. Bush himself can be accredited with an effort to use alternative
forms of energy.
In fact, under Bush’s guidance, the Governor’s Mansion
in Austin had renewable energy installed. And the Bush family ranch
in Crawford uses geothermal heating
and cooling, and the home also sports photovoltaic panels on the roof.
George W. Bush is Against Solar Power?
So, the White House has a solar
power system that does at least supply some power to the large complex,
but what about the rest of the United States? Why don’t all homes
utilize the free, clean, renewable energy of the sun?
Research and production of alternative forms of energy are not a priority
for the Bush administration. Even as demand for solar
power and other forms of renewable
energy increase throughout the world, the United States’ production
and supply of photovoltaic solar panels and other earth and energy friendly
products seems to lessen.
It is commonly believed that a great deal of Bush’s administration
has been tailored to fit the desires of his supporters in the oil industry
rather than environmentalists. Even as CO2 emissions increase and supplies
of oil and natural gas decreases, the United States has failed to take
a big enough step toward alternative forms of energy.
So, what side of the fence is Bush really on? Judging by his homes,
we could trust that he is interested in the future of our earth. Judging
by his policies, we can see that he is not.
